Vastu shastra is 5000-year-old classical
indian science regarding architectures of physical as well as physical
entities and provides set of guides for building constructions based
on scientific reasoning and observed facts. Vastu is the place where
we are living. So we are all directed by the Sourayudham. Sun being
the center of controlling part. This indicates all the ingredients
of the Sourayadham has got the face or direction towards the Sun.
Therefore the Earth as a vastu, its face or direction is towards Sun
which is called the East.
Vastu is derived from the sanskrit
word vasathi=comfort. It relates to the five elements agni=fire, vaayu=air,
vaari=water, prithvi=earth, akash=sky. Vastu is the science of arranging
the above-mentioned elements in their respective places.
It has been documented over thousands
of years that the improper positioning of the these elements will
lead to financial problems, lack of issues, theft, fire-accidents,
ill health, marital problems, accidents, sudden death, etc. Making
the necessary changes to our buildings can rectify the above problems,
so that the five elements are in harmony.
The complex interplay of the above
elements with the eight directions (E, W, N, S, NE, SE, SW, NW) can
profoundly influence the people living or working in the premises.
For example, directions EAST and WEST will influence the
male members, where as SOUTH and NORTH will influence the female members
living of the family.
Thus, it is of paramount significance
that one adheres to the principles of vastu for their personal and
business constructions to have a happy and a prosperous life.
Human body is under gravitational
rotational and magnetic influence of the nine Planets. In fact it
is governed and controlled by all these nine planets. Dwelling place
is known as GRAHA, and this graha is under the rule of vastu, the
Omnipotent Devtha (Divine Lord of men's dwelling place.) So there
has to be an utmost harmony between the body (which is ruled by Nava
Graha) and home (Graha which is under the influence of Vastu. Vastu
Sasthra is the science which explains the rules of the harmony required.
Even Birds and Animals are not exceptions,
because they too select or make their own dwelling places. Men choose
homes to live in, select places for establishing their business, own
a lodge, marriage hall, auditorium, hospital and above all a place
of worship. Therefore, it is very important to strictly adhere to
the rules laid down in the Vastu Sasthra while constructing the required
structure. The main face- The entry point is guarded by Lord Vinayaka
and Goddesses Saraswathi and Lakshmi. The hind face, viz., the rear
side or back door is under constant watch by the evil Goddess - Moodevi
- who tries to enter into the Graha. All the eight directions surrounding
the structure should be properly selected and measured as per the
divine rules of the Vastu Sasthra, so as to ensure that the dweller
leads a wealthy, healthy, happy and long life.
Introduction & Overview
Considered an integral part of the Indian home, Vastu's significance
stems from much more than the placing of a window. It works on the
basic premise that the earth or soil is actually alive, and that all
living or organic creatures emerge directly from it. This life force
within the earth is called Vastu's, and all objects placed on it share
this life force. The earth therefore works as both substance and support.
Vastu's is also explained as the living space (Vas meaning "to
be" or "to live").
Vastu considered the interplay of
various forces of nature involving the five elements of earth, water,
wind, fire and ether and strives to maintain equilibrium as these
elements influence, guide and change the living styles of not only
human beings but every living being on earth. Thus they influence
our deeds, luck, behavior and other basics of life.
Vastu Shastra is the sublime elucidation
of your surrounding and their influence on your life. Vastu literally
means " house" or Dwelling Place and its principles establish
to create a harmony between the fine elements viz. Earth, Sky, Fire,
Water and Air in the environment.
Vastu Shastra unifies the science,
art, astronomy and astrology; it can also be said as an ancient mystic
science for designing and building. Vastu Shastra helps us to make
our lives better and will secure from things going wrong.
Vastu Shastra is an ancient building
science which covers the philosophy and theory of Architectural works
to construct any building and as well as living style of people. Vastu
Shastra is based on various natural energies, which is available free
cost in atmosphere like:
Solar Energy from Sun. Lunar Energy
from Moon
Earth Energy
Sky Energy
Electric Energy
Magnetic Energy
Thermal Energy
Wind Energy
Light Energy
Cosmic Energy
Utilization of such energies gives
us pleasure peace, prosperity and money etc in our life. Now a days
we are having National Building code, which gives us certain regulations
to construct building, whereas in past our ancestors were having Vastu
Shastra as a religious & rigorist code. As per shastra Vastu Purush
is god of building science. Thus Vastu is rational, as it is scientific,
it is permanent as it is based on directions and directions are unchangeable.
It is beneficial as it is a bridge between man, material and nature
and above all it is practical, as it is very simple to follow. Build
your house according to the guidelines provided by vastu and lead
a healthy and happy life.
Vastu can be used for every room,
every house, every temple, every shop industry, town planning, tour,
cities and even for earth. Vastu can be used for micro as well as
for macro level.
Every creature on earth starts its
life with sunrise as it performs day & night. Hence there is much
importance of sun in every one life. It gives ultra violet rays in
morning and infra red rays in evening which one basic need to reduce
/ generate bio-chemical germs, N2/ Oxygen / CO2 on earth.
Sun indicates light (illumination)
will power, generosity, solar system, luck or fate, mobility and in
body. It rules over bone, eye, heart, spinal cord, blood circulation
and soul etc. Hence east direction is auspicious; it belongs to lord
Indra. North is considered auspicious since magnetic lines of forced
moves from North to South, thus origin of all the life.
There are three forces in action
to create harmony. Wind, water and fire or, vaayu, jal and Agni. If
these forces are kept in their appropriate places, then there will
be no disturbance. But if water is put in place of fire and wind in
place of water or in any other combination, the forces will start
acting accordingly and create disharmony and un peacefulness.
Origin
It used to be a purely technical
subject and it was only confined to architects (Sthapatis) and handed
over to their heirs. The principles of construction, architecture,
sculpture etc., as enunciated in the epics and treatise on temple
architecture, have been incorporated in the science of vastu. Its
description is there in epics like Mataysya Purana, Skanda Purana,
Agni Purana, Garuda Purana, and Vishnu Purana. There are some other
ancient shastras that pass over the knowledge of vastu shastra to
next generation, like Vishvakarma Prakash, Samraangan Sutradhar, Kashyap
Shilpshastra, Vrihad Sanhita, and Praman Manjaree...
In the Mahabharata it is said a number
of houses were built for the kings who were invited to the city Indraprastha
for the Rajasuya Yagna of King Yuddhistira. Sage Vyasa says that these
houses were as high as the peaks of Kailasa Mountains, perhaps meaning
that they stood tall and majestic. The houses were free from obstructions,
had compounds with high walls and their doors were of uniform height
and inlaid with numerous metal ornaments. It is said that the site
plan of Ayodhya, the city of Lord Rama was similar to the plan found
in the great architectural text Manasara. References are also to be
found in Buddhist literature, of buildings constructed on the basis
of Vastu. They contain references to individual buildings. Lord Buddha
is said to have delivered discourses on architecture and even told
his disciples that supervising the construction of a building was
one of the duties of the order. Mention is made of monasteries (Viharas)
or temples, buildings which are partly residential and partly religious
(Ardhayogas), residential storied buildings (Prasadas), multi-storied
buildings (harmyas) and Guhas or residential buildings for middle
class people.
The Vastu, with word meaning 'dwelling',
is believed to be the residing places of god and man. According to
its modern meaning it covers all buildings irrespective of their use
like residences, industries, business establishments, lodges, hotels
etc. It is based on the five basic and essential elements, such as
Vayu (air), Agni (fire), Jal (water), Bhumi (earth) and Aakasha (space),
which are known as Panchabhutas. Everything on earth is built from
these elements.
Vastu Shastra
All these five elements sustain life on the planet and are neutral
in their attitude towards us. They are unbiased, impartial and universal
in effect - yet we cannot control them. In an open field these elements
operate freely and there is equilibrium. When a structure is placed
in this field, the equilibrium is affected (sometimes in a chaotic
manner) and needs to be restored. When this is achieved - energy flows
harmoniously, making lives well-balanced. Vastu sets our position
in creating balance between us and the environment in a manner to
absorb the benefits of the five elements, the cosmic influence of
the Sun, its light and heat, the direction of the wind and of our
planet's magnetic field.
Vastu Shastra is the Vedic system
of Architecture & Design. It is a meta physical edifice science
manipulates geography, topography and environment to channel positive
energies and prevent imbalance. Vastu Shastra is a science that gives
guidelines for the construction of house by establishing harmony with
the environment, the eight direction and five fundamental elements
in particular direction of their merits, so as to make that premises
and its inhabitants an extension of the surrounding environment. As
a science, it incorporates principles of architecture, sculpture and
construction so as to capture all the positive effects of nature.
The ultimate aim of Vastukala to use these recourses to construct
a proper home that is more than just a dwelling place but as a home
that will determine the laws of peaceful co-existence.
According to the principles of Vastu
Shastra, the World comprises of five basic and essential elements
known as Panchabhootas, which are Aakaasha(Space) ,Vaayu(Air),Agni(Fire),
Jala(Water) and bhoomi(Earth). Man can improve his physical and mental
state by the proper construction of his buildings by understanding
the effectiveness of these five natural forces. The Shastra decrees
that the entire universe exists in endless space, which has no such
direction whatsoever. Our directions are defined with respect to the
elements. All the eight directions(north, south, east, west, northeast,
northwest, southeast, southwest) have their own respective influences
on the human beings. Each direction is representative of the elements
as shown below:
North, North-West
:
Air element
North-East
:
Water element
West
:
Sky element
East, South-West
:
Earth element
South, South-East
:
Fire element
The North-East area is important to the health and well being of the
family members. It also ensures the continuity of lineage. The presence
of water in this direction is said to auger good for the home.
The North West area, the Vayu Moola,
should have open spaces. Improper maintenance of this area may lead
to quarrel, litigation and misunderstanding in the dwellers.
The presence of Agni in Agni Moola,
the South East area, is said to avoid troubles in the family and at
work. Therefore, according to Vastu, the kitchen is usually aligned
South East.
Proper maintenance of the South-West
area, the Kubera Moola, is said to bring prosperity and wealth.
These are just a few principles of
Vastu shastra. It is a vast science that incorporates a lot more issues
like direction of plot, time.
Vastu is the foundation that determines
the strength of a site by identifying respective positions and sources
of the elements of nature such as water, fire, soil, space or the
cosmic spirit and air on the site. Let us assume that we discuss vastu
for an apartment that is located on the fifth floor. To assess the
strength of the apartment, we need to determine its position within
the vastu grid. Assuming that the apartment fits into a single grid,
whose portent is fire, then it is subjected to the influences of fire
or agni. Perhaps, you are too far away from air or vayu that can nurture
fire and add to the positive qualities of Agni.
Vastu is a grid of portents that
comprises facets of life such as knowledge, wealth, marriage and so
on, on the positive side, and sickness, theft, frictions and financial
losses and so on, on the negative side. There are 64 such portents
you are exposed to. The complexion differs as per the function such
as domestic use, office, learning and so on. All the portents are
interlinked through a neutralizer or a pacifier called the Brahma
Sthana. When we look at the features of a particular portent, we should
not evaluate it in isolation. We must find out if a proper link is
established to turn the same portent favorable or not.
For example, if positive agni were
established through an unblemished Brahma Sthana, the events related
to these portents would be favorable. A proper link of agni to vayu,
on the positive side, can provide the pleasures and potency in sex
life resulting in comfortable childbirth; on the negative side, the
same may turn out to be indulgences outside the family, resulting
in frictions at home.
Similarly, it can lead to availability
of luxuries like expensive cars that result in pleasure of travel
on the positive side or lead to accidents on the negative.
The sustaining power of the resulting
portents is controlled by other influencing portents of vastu. For
example, when a child is expected, the qualities of Easanya on the
Northeast determine the gender, health and longevity of the same.
Elements
Space, time and energy are traditionally
perceived as existing in their free, unlimited state. Vastu believes
that these three elements can be disciplined by applying rhythm and
order (in other words, science) to the way we live, move, and use
time.
History
Purely technical, ancient Indian
Vastu was confined to architects (Sthapathis) and handed over by word
of mouth or through hand-written monographs. It was treated as the
science for the construction of temples and royal palaces. The principles
of construction, architecture and sculpture have been incorporated
in the science.
Epics like the Bruhatsamhita, Vishnu
Dharmottara Purana, Viswakarma Vaastu Sastra, Samarangana Sutra Dharana
and Aparajita Prutchcha, have also been responsible for Vastu taking
its shape as a science.
Early works on Vastu
The first official treatise on Vastu,
the Kasyapa Silpa, has been attributed to Sage Kasyapa. In the treatise
Agama Sastra, which explains the science of temples, Vastu is considered
the basis for any type of construction. Excavations at Harappa and
Mohenjodaro are also proof of the influence of Vastu on the Indus
Valley Civilization.
Concepts
It is always better to consult an
expert on Vastu before selecting a site for the construction of a
house to reap the best advantages out of the proposed house. It is
always advisable to go in for a site which is either a square or a
rectangle in shape. A spacious site makes the inhabitant rich provided
it is a perfect square or a rectangle. It should not be cut off in
any direction.
It is advisable to acquire an additional
site located towards to east or north of the existing house. Any amount
of investment for acquiring a plot situated towards the northeastern
part of the existing plot, is not a bad investment. The topography
of the plot reflects on the life of the inhabitant. Slope towards
north or east showers bountiful blessings on the inhabitant. Similarly
elevation in land in the western and in southern part of the site
makes the life a prosperous one. People residing in such sites do
achieve greater things. It is always better to select a spacious plot
so as to facilitate construction of as many floors as one can.
A plot located at the confluence
of two roads leading to east and north respectively, straight without
turns makes the life of the resident a pleasant one. If the plot is
situated in conformity with the compass the house constructed, thereon
also would be set as per compass. However any deliberate attempt to
adjust the house as per compass, leads to directional dead-lock, because
it result in extension of southeast, southwest and northwest. Hence
if a site does not fall in line with compass, the house can be constructed
consistent with the adjoining road and the neighboring housed. That
is why a site possessing a straight and parallel road according to
the compass must be preferred. However, a plot lying by the side of
a road leading on increasing northeast is said to lead the density
of the occupant for a brighter tomorrow. The prosperity and progress
in the life of the resident of a plot is directly proportional to
the elevation of the western and southern parts of his plot.
One should never select a triangular
site. Just as, it is difficult to change the properties of the soil
it is also difficult to change the properties of a site or a plot
is directly proportional to the elevation of the western and southern
part of his plot. One should never select a triangular site. Just
as, it is difficult to change the properties of the soil it is also
difficult to change the properties of a site or a plot as one can't
change a silk into cotton or vice versa. For instance, the existence
of a high hillock in north east of the location of a tank or a river
in west or south cannot be rectified. Similarly, one cannot change
the direction of a road, which cuts across the northeastern tip of
a plot. Further the existence of a small plot in between two bigger
plots, makes the inhabitant lead a suffocating life just as calf gets
trampled between two fighting life just as a calf gets trampled between
tow fighting bulls.
Never select a site which protrudes
towards northwest, southwest or southeast. If the vacant portion in
a site is more towards south or west than towards north or east, it
is advisable to separate the excess portion by means of a small wall
or fence and construct a shed or the same may be disposed off.
If the road leading from your plot
takes you towards east, north or northeast it is said to be a very
auspicious one. If that road leads you towards southeast or southwest
it brings misfortunes to the inhabitant.
Never think of procuring a site,
which slopes towards southwest.
It is a well - known fact that even
a single step taken in haste by the pawn will end the play with helpless
king and utter flop. In the same way a small error in acquiring land
may lead to many troubles in future. So also the contraction or projection
of directions, if not considered first, will end in chaos.
In chess the looser will be a single
person. But in Vastu, a game of directions, if the error is not checked
and rectified in the beginning itself; it will bounce troubles on
the whole household. Hence one should be cautious enough in selecting
the site as per Vastu to avoid future misfortune, lest he will become
"Burnt Child".
Principles of Vastu
The Earth spins around on its North-South
axis and is tilted from the axis towards the North by about 23 ½°
at the meridian. With the Sun rising in the East - it makes the Northeast
very important. Cosmic energy is received from this direction in abundance
(Vitamin D too) and it is in its purest form. This energy flows out
in the opposite direction - the Southwest.
The Sun moves on the Northern portion
of the Earth for six months (DEC 21st to Jun 20th or Jan 14th to Jul.
15th according to the Vedic calendar) and in the Southern portion
for the next six months (Jun 21st to December 20th or Jul. 16th to
Jan 14th according to the Vedic calendar). The daylight time will
be more when the Sun is in the Northern portion and the night time
is less. It is the contrary when in the Southern portion. Thus there
is more light in the North than in the South.
Due to these reasons more windows,
door and balconies are prescribed on the Northern and Eastern side.
The ground level should be lower here and obstacles must be removed
so that the rays of the morning sun could enter the structure. The
morning rays emit less heat and more light (ultraviolet). Water source/storage
is ideally located towards North and East for the Sun to cleanse the
water. Trees or foliage as a screen on the Western and Southern sides
are recommended - for protection from the afternoon sun (infrared).
It also helps in regulating the supply of oxygen. Summer winds (usually
from the South and West) collect moisture - from the trees before
entering the house making it more tolerable.
The energy while going from the Northeast
to the Southwest does not flow in a straight line. It divides itself
in the middle with one half flowing to the Southeast and the other
half to the Northwest. The energy is 'warmer' on the Southeast side
as it flows.
If the Thermal Concept is applied,
it appears that water raises in temperature when it passes from Northeast
to the East and 'boils' when it reaches the Southeast Contrary to
it, water remains virtually the same temperature when it passes the
from the Northeast to the Northwest. Similarly, humidity also increases
from Northeast to Southeast and decreases towards Northwest and Southwest.
While constructing a house, the
principles of Vastu are based on a set pattern. This, in turn, is
based on the convenience of those living and certain basic rules of
direction. It is believed that a slight deviation from the pattern
might have an adverse effect on our lives.
Three principles of design have been put forth which cover the entire
field of design, whether it is a building, a craft item or an article
of daily use.
Bhogadyam
The designed product must be useful and lend itself to easy application.
Sukha Darsham
The designed product must be aesthetically pleasing. This principle
covers the exterior of a building as well as the interior.
Ramy
The designed product must be capable of evoking a feeling of well-being
and contentment.
In Vastu there are multiple ways in which the designer and occupant
can create a space for experience. If the space has a specific activity,
then gathering all energies in a single centre proves to be very powerful.
Though the science of Vastu follows generic rules, certain specific
principles are followed:
Vastu practitioners believe that rooms in the eastern and northern
part of the house must have a smaller carpet area than those located
in the western and southern parts. This principle is followed due
to the belief that the eastern parts of the house are sensitive to
heavy loads. There must be an equal distribution of heavy and light
rooms in the house for a free flow of positive energy.
The North-eastern part of the house is very sensitive, and care must
be taken to see that no heavy object is placed in that part of the
house. Heavy objects like tables and refrigerators must be arranged
in the southern or western direction. These principles are followed
to maintain a sense of balance, and are universally applicable.
Creation of Vastu grid
The positions of water, fire, soil,
space (to capture the cosmic spirit) and air found in proper order
determines the evolution of vastu in an enclosed property. The proximities
and positions with respect to compatible directions establish the
strength of Vastu.
Northeast is attributed to water;
southeast is to fire, southwest to soil, northwest to air and the
centre to the Brahma Sthana. When the elements match the directions,
you have created a solid foundation.
The positions of water underground
in Northeast and fire in Southeast regulate the spectrum of solar
energy as ultraviolet rays and infrared rays respectively on the eastern
stretch. A water source identified in the Northeast is subjected to
ultraviolet filtered water for consumption and the food cooked in
Southeast eliminates contamination and food poisoning. So is the well
in Northeast and kitchen in Southeast. Bathroom, in the east centre,
fights germs and neutralizes body temperature, provided you bathe
in the morning.
Adherence to the above rules will
ensure the blessings of the God of New Beginnings and Growth (Lord
Indra) in the East, God of Career & Income (Lord Kubera - He has
three legs) in the North, God of Abundance & Settlement (Lord
Varuna) in the West, God of Accomplishments & Salvation (Lord
Yama) in the South and God of Creation (Lord Brahma) in the centre.
Lord Indra holds the lightning streak in his right hand and keeping
a basil plant in the East acts as an earth against lightning.
The starting point of Vastu is from
where the front is identified. The front of Man or donkey or jellyfish
is where the mouth is. The same way, the point of entry that separates
your premises from a public space be it a street or lift lobby or
the floor corridor, is where your front is.
Identifying the point of entry with
respect to the positions of elements of nature and the condition of
the Brahma Sthana determine the state of life of the inmates. Out
of 64 points of entries, which is yours? Every single cardinal direction
has 16 sub-directions. If you assume your house faces east, remember
that there are 16 east’s, of which to find out the exact one,
we need an exact compass reading, physically taken on the spot.
How on earth a person on the TV or
the telephone is competent to guide you, just by asking you which
general direction your house faces? The same way, be cautious of persons
who want `only the sketch of your house'.
While seeking professional help,
ensure that the person moves out of his seat or else (1). You are
his/her yet another provider of the day, (2). The recommendations
he/she proposes may result in disasters. We will examine the characters
of directions later.
A large low earthen carpet with an
underground water source that is ultraviolet filtered on the northern
half, and a well maintained kitchen garden that gets solar cooked
the before the radiations pass on to the stove on the southeast half
give you benefits of spiritual bliss, wisdom, influence and health.
Many people often observe that there
are people living without problems in spite of features present in
their premises that are in non-compliance with vastu parameters. Perhaps,
a big vastu defect could be spotted within, to add to such conclusions.
A full square happy family denotes
that there are always present pairs of three generations of lineage,
and the fourth is in the offing, celebrating life blessed with health,
wealth, knowledge, harmony, and respect and so on in unison.
In a house that has got an `obvious'
vastu defect, there is always an obscure member that absorbs the effects.
For example, in a house with vastu conditions present as to cause
the loss of an elderly husband,
Remedy: there could be found a cook who is an old widow who sleeps
and bathes there, satisfying the relevant energy demand, thus helping
the core household remain unaffected. Allow her to keep a portrait
of her departed husband hung out.
It is wise to `plant or uproot' the
vulnerable members in order to camouflage a negative situation, especially
when the time is ripe to strike. However, this could just be a complement
to a band of the rest of the strategies to ward off evil in total.
If you allow rainwater and drainage of others flow into your property.
Remedy: Talk your neighbor out to save your family at once.
If the Northwest of your premises
is higher than the Southeast.
Remedy: Match floor levels or brightly light up the Northwest temporarily. If
there is an open sewage on the Southeast side.
Remedy: Close the drainage and cap it up with a wastepaper bin or
maintain four purple crotons in line between the centre and the southeast
of the property.
This beside, better be watchful while opening up your car bonnet.
Vastu - Manaiyadi Shastra
The term "manai", a tamil
word, refers to house."shastra" refers to a discipline of
study .Thus manaiyadishastram refers to the discipline which analysis
the impact experienced by the residents of the house for the various
dimensions (length and breath) while residing in the house. Manaiyadi
shastram is applicable to each and every room in the house. Therefore
care should be taken while fixing the length and breadth of every
single room because this might adversely affect the person who is
living in that room. The good and bad effects of fixing a particular
dimension for rooms in the house are given below in a table. Readers
are advised to go through this table and build their houses in their
own interest.
Vastu Guidelines

-
In the construction of successful Industries.
-
For flourishing Shopping and Commercial Complexes.
-
For Hotels, Cinema halls, Auditoriums etc. for
high returns.
Authenticity of Vastu
The biggest Proof of vastushastra
can be found during the time of Ramayan and Mahabharat. Even in the
cities of Mohanjodaro and Harappa the application of vastushastra
can be seen. Since the science goes far back to the times of Lord
Rama and Lord Krishna there are many interesting mythological stories
concerning the origin of Vastupurush (the deity).
If you consider it a mythological
fact then here are the most unbelievable examples that Vastu is a
science and one must follow it wholeheartedly.
Geographical situation of an area
affects the nature thus the vastu for every place changes. We see
that some countries are much advanced, developed and prosperous while
others are much backward. For e.g.
Japan, existence of deep water in
North and the East is considered most auspicious according to vastu
shastra. The eastern side of Japan is widely spread and open. Thus
Japan gets full benefit of the rays of the sun. This is why Japan
is rich and prosperous. There is sea in Southeast and south of Japan,
which is a place for Fire, this is why it suffered the attack of atom
bombs explosion and earthquake.
If we take Africa as a continent,
we all know the northeastern corner of this continent is interjected.
Northwest portion is projected, southeast and south have unlimited
water, these all conditions are inauspicious according to vastu, that's
why African countries are backward, uneducated, poor. But on the contrary,
in the north of this continent, there exists Mediterranean Sea, which
is favorable according to vastu. In the eastern part, river Nile flows
and that's why civilization developed in Egypt and now Egypt got name
and honor for its world famous pyramids.
Why to go far, lets discuss our own
INDIA, we know we have the Himalayas in the North and Northeast side
of our country which is against vastu, thus there is lot of poverty
in our country. There is water in Southwest and southeast side of
our nation, thus we have to face the attacks of foreign empires. One
thing that makes India famous is that we have our slope towards east,
which is a very favorable and auspicious sign.
Apart from the geographical conditions
and different nations, if we take examples within our country, you
will be surprised to see. Have you ever thought that why tajmahal
is so famous that it has become the 7th wonder of the earth and why
exactly similar structure called "chandbibi ka makbara"
situated in Aurangabad is not yet known to the people. Why is so that
the Tirupati balaji is world famous and other temples situated in
the same regions are still waiting for the pilgrims to come….
This is all vastu, they are famous because they are made according
to vastu.
Thus to achieve the happiness, peace
and prosperity, one must follow the principles of vastu.
Vastu is an empirical science. Over
the years, based on the knowledge in the Vedas, repeated studies on
a number of buildings, offices, temples, houses, apartments have shown
a positive correlation between the application of Vastu principles
and success. It can be extensively applied to various edifices natural
and man-made land masses, temples, factories, homes, office buildings
and corporate headquarters.
Water in the Northeast is considered
most auspicious and Japan has the largest water body in this direction,
a reason for its being one of the most prosperous countries in the
world. Mumbai again has water in the North East and the Atomic Power
Plant (Agni) in the South East thus according to Vastu principles
and the most powerful, prosperous place in India.
The location and construction of
the famous Balaji Temple, the most prosperous in India, are all according
to Vastu: Water tank in the Northeast, Kitchen in Southeast, and the
Lord in Southwest facing East and so on. Studies conducted on cities
like New York, London, Singapore, Hong Kong etc have shown they are
according Vastu principles.
The most famous prosperous industrial
houses have also been studied; The Tata head quarters in Mumbai, Akbarallys
the most successful retail store in India, factories of FACOR a highly
successful industry in A.P. and many others have been found to be
according to Vastu.
Vastu and Natural Law
Modern research has proved that the
ancient science Vastu has a firm scientific basis. As modern science
developed it began to probe to the deeper levels of Natural Law. At
each level, scientists found progressively greater intelligence and
power.
In the last decade, modern physics
explored the deepest level of all the Unified Field of Natural Law.
The intelligence at this level of Natural Law is the source of all
the forms, and phenomena in nature. The architecture of everything
in nature is finally designed from here.
The Natural Law has for the first
time provided a building technology that will transform the way people
think and feel – homes and offices by their mere design create
good health, clear thinking, happiness, harmony, and prosperity for
the family or business. According to Vastu a southern entrance is
inauspicious and interferes with the support of Natural Law and brings
negative influences to the inhabitants of the building.
Accordingly, there is an ideal place
for the living room, the kitchen, the dining rooms, and the bedrooms.
It is important to place each room in the house in the proper location
according to its function, so that one does not become sleepy in the
dining room or hungry in the study. This is one of the many factors
that are considered to ensure that every aspect of daily activity
is in harmony with Natural Law.
Just as every part of the human body
is properly placed and precisely proportioned; there is an ideal proportion
for every room in the home and office for Natural Law to provide maximum
support.
Latest research in neural science
has shed light on the fact that our Cosmic Counterparts – the
sun, moon, and the planets – have a one-to-one relationship
to the different parts of the brain: basil ganglia, thalamus and hypothalamus.
This natural tendency to align with the cosmos has led to the concept
of orienting buildings towards the east to gain the full support of
the rising sun.
Role of Vastu Science in
21st century
Our ancient Vastu Shastra has been
founded in such a way, that the inmates can derive maximum benefits
from sun-rays and the energies of the sun like heat light, UV rays
– the only reliable source of Vitamin D (Vitamin D is absorbed
by the blood directly when the bare skin is exposed to sun), which
is vital for sustenance of life on the Earth.
Uttaraayana and dakshinaayana too
are of great scientific importance since daytime will be more than
the nighttime in the Uttaraayana facilitating availability of more
sun light.
It is only some years ago that the
modern scientists have discovered that the white solar light could
be split into segments called visible rays and invisible heat spectrum.
But thousands of years ago, our ancient Indian sages, not equipped
with any kind of appliances were able to discern many natural phenomena
in a scientific manner and according to the visible spectrum had distinctive
names with specific functions besides colors like: Jayanta, Parjanya,
Mahendra…. to Bhrsha and Aakaasha , which correspond to VIBGYOR.
Other than that, sunrays consist
of 7 colors (VIBGYOR) and their effect on human body is immense as
it cures several diseases.
The modern astra physics, during
the last few decades, has divided the atmosphere into several zones
like Stratosphere, Ozonosphere etc. but several centuries before this
discovery, the atmosphere over which Varuna held its way was divided
by our sages into Bhu, Bhuv, Swar, Jan, Tap and Satyalok.
The Eastern direction assumes a great
significance because the sunrays of early morning emit more light
and less heat, hence the best. In the afternoon, sun moving towards
West, grow hot emitting Infrared rays, which are detrimental to health.
Thus, due to all these reasons, it
is explicitly laid down in Vastu Shastra that more open space, more
windows and doors fixed, more balconies and verandahs should be provided
towards the East and the North side than in the South and the West
side.
The most important aspect considered
while formulating the Vastu Shastra is the magnetic field of the Earth,
which has significant influence on the human life. Human body itself
acts as a magnet with the head, the heaviest as North Pole. If the
head is directed towards the North while sleeping, the North Pole
of the Earth and that of the human body repel each other affecting
the blood circulation, causing disturbed sleep, tension and other
problems. Thus, it is said by Vastu Shastris that ONE SHOULD NOT SLEEP
FACING HIS HEAD TOWARDS NORTH.
Now-a-days many hi-tech instruments
are available by which one can detect Vastu defect of a house by measuring
the energy level of the person residing in. By using Feed Back Energy
tester, one can not only detect the Vastu defect by measuring the
energy of the human, but the same person can restore the energy with
the help of ‘Yong Yang Deep Stimulator’. Another device
to measure the human energy field is ‘Lecher Antenna’.
In the most recent survey of the
Gujarat earth quake effected regions, the maximum houses destroyed
were not according to Vastu and those were intact were constructed
on the principles of vastu.

Indian Temples - Glorious Examples
The temples in India that have seen
more than 1000 years still stand undaunted as a marvel in architecture.
The technology adopted by the ancient architects is amazing. It is
impossible to erect such architectural beauties even with the help
of today's modern technologies. Almost all the Hindu temples that
were constructed in India several centuries ago were constructed according
to the principles laid down by Vastu Shastra.

Blocking of NE (Ishan) portion of
the house/industry restricts the inflow of the blessings of

house with a central courtyard and verandahs all around, is a 'model'
of Vastu design.
Scientific Reasoning of Vastu
Vastu stands in Earth. Earth depends
on water-water is balanced by Agni, Agni is controlled by air (either).
Air movements is possible in Akasha. Similarly the Purusha - living
beings. The body (earth) depends the water, contents in the body balanced
by the Agni (98.6 Degree in the body). Agni-heat is controlled by
the air. Breathing which is possible only if we are having space (Akash)
inside the human body. Human body is under gravitational rotational
and magnetic influence of the nine Planets. In fact it is governed
and controlled by all these nine planets. Therefore Vastu called as
Vastu Purusha Mandala.
So the Vastu and the building must
be considered as a lively place and structure, became it will be having
all the qualities and drawbacks of the earth so as in the Sourayudha.Vastu
is in harmony with earth's magnetic properties. Now all the ingredients
or parts of Sourayudham directs to the Sun, the face is to the centre
of the Sourayudham ie Earth as a mass directs to or makes darshan
to the Sun. Continents to its center Country to its center Similarly
State, Village to their center. Therefore each Vastu as whole in the
village to the center of the village, but the part and places of the
Vastu direct to the center of the vastu which is called the Nabhi
or brahmasthram of Vastu. If we consider one vastu all the materials
or contents facing towards the center of Vastu which means whatever
the West faces, East, South-North, West-East, North-South.
Vastu for Other Buildings
Flats or apartments are technically
many houses built one over the other. Hence the basic concept of Vastu
is applicable to flats also. The southwest should be the highest point
and northeast the lowest.
The well and sump should be only in the northeast or east sectors
.It is recommended to place the blocks more towards the south or west
.The overhead tank and the dish antenna should be in the south west
.The lift should be in the south or west zone. The stairs may be in
the southwest zone as also the head room on the terrace.
Do not place the kitchen of one house adjacent to the bedroom of another.
Bedrooms can be present only in southwest, northwest, west and south.

the ceremony to appease the goddess of Earth (Vastu Santhi) once every
year or once every twelve years during this period of thirty years.

will be in deep debts, because of the wear and tear of the main door.
The sustenance income will get reduced and will be insufficient to
clear the debts. Misfortune will assume the form of family fends leading
to separation. Thus misfortune will replace good fortune. This is
how MAYA, the renowned architect, explains in his text on house building.
The bad influence of a defective house will lead to domestic and occupational
misfortunes of the resident with a possible separation of family member(s),
although the horoscope of the resident has the positions and movements
of the planets favorable and the time propitious. It is for certain
that by removing the above said defects in a building, the resident
shall have a peaceful, plentiful and prosperous life.

Ayadi Poruttam - Ayadi literally
means ‘income and others’. Income, here, stands for all
energy inputs whether in terms of money, health, children, happiness,
friendship or spiritual strength. In order to bring about prosperity
in all walks of life the following calculations or avadi poruttam
are made:
To begin with the module (padam),
which is being adopted for the design, should be checked against the
birth star (janma nakshatram) of the owners for it to act in a beneficial
manner on them. The width or perimeter of the building may also be
calculated for benefits. In houses, which may grow in parts over time,
the perimeter may keep changing; hence either the module or width
may be taken as the primary measure for subsequent beneficial calculation.
The calculation should be aimed at
the following:
-
To create a sense of well being.
-
To balance monetary income and expense so that
there is no loss.
-
To achieve work excellence.
-
To effect an aura of contentment and spiritual
satisfaction in the built space.
-
To enhance learning and curiosity.
-
To allow for growth and prosperity.
